Maintaining good behavior
- Make eye contact with or move closer to the student. Use a signal, such as a flicking the lights or counting down from 5-4-3-2-1. Do so until the student complies.
- Remind the student of the correct procedure. State the correct procedure or note other students who are doing it correctly.
- When the students is off task- that is not working on an assignment- redirect his or her attention to the task. Check the students progress shortly after to see if he or she has gotten back on task.
- Ask or tell the student to stop the inappropriate behavior. Monitor until it stops and the student begins constructive activity.
*Sometimes it may inconvenience or interrupt an activity to use these procedures immediately, in such a case it would be good to make a mental note of the problem and continue on with the lesson until a more appropriate time occurs.
