Rationale for room arrangement
- The main activities in my classroom will be teacher-led recitations, demonstrations, and presentations, students would be seated so that they can easily see the main instructional area, and nearby storage space and surfaces for materials will be available.
- I plan to have my students work in small groups every day, however, student seating and access to supplies may vary if students cannot stay on task.
- High- traffic areas will be separated in my classroom and easily accessible.
- I like to monitor my students throughout the learning period, so it’s important that I sit my (the teacher) desk in an area where I can see everyone. I need to be able to see any student that needs assistance or anyone that’s being disruptive.
- Set my classroom up to give my students easy access to storage areas allowing activities to begin and end promptly, minimizing time spent getting ready and cleaning up.
- As you can see, the way I have my student’s desk set up, everyone is able to see the overhead projector screen without moving their chairs, turning their desk around, or craning their necks. Such conditions would encourage my students to pay attention, and make it less difficult for them to take notes or copy material.
Therefore, my classroom makes for clear lines of sight between areas of the room, and is design to keep everyone on task; working hard!
